Hotel Review | Al Fassia Aguedal | Marrakech
While in Marrakech we wanted to stay somewhere local to get the true “riad” experience. A riad is quite specifically: a multi-floor home with an open-air courtyard.
Our riad was the Al Fassia Aguedal located just outside the medina. We opted to stay outside the medina because we weren’t sure how the noise and craziness would be with a baby.
For more on the medina, check out part one of my Marrakech guide.
The location is just a few miles from where everything is “happening” in Marrakech, so although we weren’t right in the center of the action, being a short 10-minute drive was more than fine for us.
The grounds of the Al Fassia Aguedal are small, but sweet. There’s an outdoor pool with tons of lounge chairs and a small garden. We spent an hour or so by the pool one afternoon and were pleased with the quiet and relaxed atmosphere.
The lobby is really where the Al Fassia Aguedal shines. Tropical trees are the first thing you notice when stepping inside the courtyard. Due to the fact that there’s no roof, these giant palms just grow right through the top of the building! In the middle of the courtyard is a fountain with floating tropical flowers. The riad itself is beautiful with tiled floors and walls, and rich colors.
We were greeted with traditional mint tea while we discussed our room accommodations with the staff, who were absolutely, the best part of our stay in Marrakech. Al Fassia Aguedal is a family owned operation, with Myra Chab running the riad operations. Myra was the kindest person! She checked in on us frequently, remembered our names and asked us to take good care of Emerson for her before we left. On our last day, she waited for us by the front desk so she could properly say goodbye. We hugged like we had known each other forever. That sort of hospitality is something I’ll never forget!
The rooms at Al Fassia Aguedal are unique and comfortable with all of the amenities one would need. They even had a pack-n-play for Emmy (which I’ve learned not all hotels do) and a tea kettle so we could make her food.
There’s also a restaurant attached to the riad (operated by Myra’s sister) where we ate every night of our trip. Amazing service and delicious food. You couldn’t go wrong staying at the Al Fassia Aguedal!
